SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — The Ohio Northern volleyball team opened play in the 2013 Washington (Mo.) Invitational Friday night with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 loss to No. 7-ranked host Washington (Mo.) at the WU FieldHouse.
The Polar Bears fall to 4-1, while the Bears improve to 6-0.
Sophomore Ellie Gillespie led ONU with nine kills and 16 digs.
Freshman Kelli Weininger added eight kills and sophomore Heather Saunier had 27 assists.
Alex Sheredy paced Washington with a match-high 14 kills.
Northern hit .109 for the match with 31 kills, while Washington hit .250 with 46 kills.
Ohio Northern will face a pair of top-10 ranked schools to complete tournament play in Saturday, facing No. 3 Wittenberg at 11 am (EST) and No. 10 Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) at 2:30 pm.
