Schweller, Burman lead Women's Track and Field at Mount Union Final Qualifier

ALLIANCE — Sophomore Claire Schweller (Paulding) and junior Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) had outstanding afternoon to lead the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team at the Mount Union Final Qualifier on Saturday.

Top ONU Performers
- Schweller won the pole vault with a career-best height of 3.90 meters, a full .15 of a meter better then her previous best, moving her comfortably inside the top 20 nationally. She now sits sixth in the country and will likely qualify for the NCAA III Championships for the first time in her career.
- Burman shattered her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.90 meters, 46 centimeters better than her prior best of 17.44. She moved from 17th to 13th on the national list and will also likely receive a bid to the NCAA III Championships.
- Burman also improved on her shot put with a season-best toss of 12.84 meters.
- Freshman Paige Simpson (Merrillville, Ind.) set a personal best in the 200, winning the event in :26.48. She also won the 60 dash in 7.94 seconds.
- Junior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) and senior Olesya Mertz (Johnstown) competed in the mile.
- Matthews was second in a career-best 5:10.01 and Mertz was fourth in 5:22.10.
- Junior Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) was second in the long jump with a season-best leap of 5.37 meters.

- Schweller moves into a tie for second on ONU's career list with her 12' 9.5" height.
- Simpson now ranks third all-time at ONU in the 200 with her :26.48 finish.
- Matthews moves up to fifth on ONU's list in the Mile
- Burman's toss of 58' 8" in the shot is 5' 3" better than Rebecca Olashuk's 53' 5" toss in 2017.
- The top 20 individuals and the top 12 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Championships
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 15th year at Ohio Northern and is now 575-174 in women's indoor track and field for a winning percantage of .768.
