Women's Tennis runs win streak to six with 7-2 victory over Washington College (Wis.)

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive match and improved to 2-0 on its annual spring break trip with a 7-2 victory over Washington College (Md.) on Tuesday afternoon at the United States Tennis Academy.
The Basics

The Match
- The Polar Bears won two of the three doubles courts and five of the singles courts to post the win.
- Sophomore Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) and junior Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and
- Juniors Miranda Wills (Ada) and Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 8-7(7) at No. 3 doubles.
- Northern won at No. 6 singles by forfeit to go up 3-1.
- Bell then won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to make it 4-1.
- Sophomore Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) aclinched the match at 5-1 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.
- Freshman Molly McLane (Westerville/Big Walnut) put ONU ahead 5-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
- The Shorewomen won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
- O'Connell finished off the victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
Notables
- Bell and O'Connell each went 2-0 for ONU.
- The Polar Bears are now 1-0 all-time against Washington College.
- Sophomore Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) leads the team with a 11-7 singles mark.
- Sheldon has a team-best 11-5 doubles record and Bell leads the squad with a 20-13 overall record this year.
- Northern improves to 6-1 in calendar year 2024.
- Second-year head coach Sean Swisher is now 25-8 at the helm of the ONU women's tennis team, a winning percentage of .758.
