Women's Tennis opens home slate with tight 5-4 loss to NAIA foe Indiana-East

LIMA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened the home portion of its schedule with a tight 5-4 loss to NAIA foe Indiana-East on Friday afternoon indoors at the Westwood Tennis Center.
The match was slated to be played outside at ONU's West Campus Courts, but a steady light rain throughout the day forced the contest indoors.

The Match
- ONU won two of the three doubles courts and the Nos. 4 and 6 singles courts.
- Senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord)and junior Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) each went 2-0 to lead the Polar Bears.
- Landis and junior Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) opened the match with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
- Sheldon and sophomore Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn)then won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
- Landis made it 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
- Sheldon won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles and ONU's lead was 4-2
- The Red Wolves rallied to win the final three singles matches to grab the win 5-4.
Notables
- Landis is 102-32 overall in her career, including a 58-19 mark in singles play and 44-13 in doubles.
- This was the first ever meeting between the Polar Bears and the Red Wolves.
- Sean Swisher is now 18-6 in his second season as head coach of the ONU women's tennis team.
