Women's Tennis wraps up regular season with 9-0 victory at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a 9-0 victory at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 15-4 overall and finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings with a 6-1 record. The Purple Raiders fall to 3-8, 3-4.
Northern will be the No. 2 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and receives a first round bye into the semifinals on Friday at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason.
Ohio Northern won all six courts that were contested as UMU played with only four players, forfeiting at Nos. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Freshman Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) went 2-0 to lead ONU.
Bell joined with freshmen Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and freshman Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) and sophomore Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-1 at No. 2 as the visitors led 3-0 after doubles play.
In singles action, Bell won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 at No. 2, junior Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 and sophomore Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
This marks the third consecutive and sixth time in the past seven years that ONU received a bye into the OAC Tournament semifinals.
