UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to post a 6-3 victory at John Carroll on Monday afternoon in a battle of league unbeatens at the Short Family Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears also run their winning streak to nine matches in improving to 12-3 overall. Northern also moved into a first place tie in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record.
The Blue Streaks fall to 3-9, 3-1.
Sophomore Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) and freshman Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles as ONU trailed 2-1 after doubles play.
But the Polar Bears would take five of the six singles courts, all in straight sets, to grab the road victory.
Hurst and Sheldon were Northern's only double-winner as Hurst also won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Sheldon won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and sophomore Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday when they host OAC foe Baldwin Wallace.
