Women's Tennis extends winning streak to seven matches with 8-1 victory at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven consecutive matches on a beautiful Sunday afternoon with an 8-1 non-conference victory at Wittenberg at the Albright Tennis Complex.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-3 overall and wrap up their non-conference schedule with a 9-3 record. The Tigers fall to 6-4.
Freshman Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) was the team's only double winner on the day as ONU played nine different players in the match.
Northern opened Saturday's match by winning two of the three three doubles courts to take a 2-1 lead.
Hurst and sophomore Miranda Wills (Ada) won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and senior Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West) and sophomore Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
ONU then swept the six singles courts to seal the victory.
Freshman Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) won by retirement at No. 1, Hurst won 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 at No. 2, freshman Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, junior Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 and sophomore Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Polar Bears return to action on Friday with a 5 pm Ohio Athletic Conference match against Muskingum.
