Women's Tennis runs win streak to six, tops Marietta 8-1 in OAC opener

LIMA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team ran its winning streak to six matches and opened its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with an 8-1 victory over Marietta indoors on Saturday at Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 1-7, 0-2.
Northern opened Saturday's match by sweeping all three doubles courts.
Freshmen Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) and Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, senior Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West) and sophomore Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-1 at No. 2 and sophomore Cassie Stuber (Lima/Central Catholic) and freshman Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) won 8-0 at No. 3.
The Polar Bears closed the match by winning five of the six singles courts.
Hurst won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, junior Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, senior Victoria Santana (Humacao, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Antonio Abad) won 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 at No. 5 and sophomore Marisa Petrunich (Brownsburg, Ind.) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Polar Bears return to action on Sunday in a 10 am non-conference match against Wittenberg in Dayton.
