ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team opened its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-1 win over Mount Union on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The defending OAC Tournament champion Polar Bears improve to 6-1-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC while dropping the Purple Raiders to 3-2-3, 0-1.
Sophomores Elizabeth Pierce (Liberty Township/Mount Notre Dame) and Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville) and junior Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) scored one goal apiece for Northern.
It was Mount Union that took the early lead, though, as Jillian Pidgeon scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute.
Pierce knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal assisted by junior Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll) in the 19th minute, and the teams took that score into the halftime break.
Cabana gave ONU the lead in the 58th minute, finding the back of the net off of a corner kick assist from Bowman. That marked Bowman's team-best fifth assist of the season.
Cabana's goal gave her eight points on the season, tying her with sophomore Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) for the team lead.
Bowman then capped the scoring with a goal of her own in the 83rd minute, putting ONU up 3-1 en route to the victory.
Northern finished with a 23-4 edge in shots and 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Riding a three-game win streak, the Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday when they host OAC foe Otterbein at 7 p.m.
