ADA — Behind a solid defensive effort anchored by goalkeeper Erin Waehner, the No. 25 Polar Bear women's soccer team fought to a 0-0 tie against regional adversary Denison, Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
With the tie, Northern moves to 4-1-2 overall while the Big Red moves to 3-3-2.
"That was probably the best team we've played this year so far and I think it was a good result for us," head coach Mark Batman comments. "It was a good game on both sides. Both squads had their opportunities to put a goal up but neither backed down."
Waehner faced 17 Denison shots and recorded 13 saves during the outing.
The Big Red outshot Northern 17-14 (which includes a 13-7 on-goal advantage). Denison notched 10 shots in the first half alone, many of which were back-to-back midway through the period.
The Polar Bears also had their share of opportunities later in the game, with sophomore Sami Atkinson and freshman Kristina Klusek each finding their way deep in Denison territory with the ball with defenders behind them.
Grace Cronin and Lydia Harlan led the Big Red with seven and six shots, respectively. Atkinson led the Polar Bears with four shots, three of which were on goal.
ONU opens up its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon when it hosts Muskingum in a 1 p.m. bout. The squad will also celebrate Parents' Day during the contest.
