Five Polar Bears advance to semifinals on first day of NCAA III Central Regional Wrestling Championships

ADA — No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern advanced five into the semifinals of their respective weight classes on the first day of the 2024 NCAA Division III Central Regional Wrestling Championships.

The Basics
- Records: #12 Ohio Northern (17-7) is in 3rd place of 19 teams with 87.5 points after the first day of competition.
- #6 Baldwin Wallace is in first place with 108.5 points, #14 Wabash (Ind.) is second with 93.5 points and Adrian (Mich.) is fourth with 82.0 points.

ONU Individuals
- Junior Dylan Le (Dublin/Scioto) advanced to the semis at 133 pounds with a 2-0 record with a forfeit and a major decision. Le, the No. 3 seed in the weight class, is now 28-13 on the season.
- Junior All-American and No. 1-ranked Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) went 2-0 with a pair of falls to advance to the semifinals at 141 pounds. Reed is now 24-0 on the year.
- Junior Jayden Jones (Ashland) advanced to the semis as the No. 3 seed at 157 pounds. He won via pin and tech fall to start 2-0. Jones improves to 22-12 this season.
- Junior Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview) is the No. 4 seed at 165 and reached the semis with a 3-0 record, posting two falls and a decision. Hendricks is now 25-8 on the year.
- Junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) is the No. 3 seed at 184 pounds. He went 2-0 with a pin and a decision to reach the semis. Layman has a team-best 33 wins to go against 9 losses.
- Junior Colin Mellott (Wapakoneta) is the No. 5 seed at 125 pounds. He advanxced to the consolation quarterfinals with a 2-1 record. He is now 30-15 on the season.
- Junior Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy) advanced to the consolation quarterfinals as the No. 5 seed at 174. He was 3-1 on Friday and is now 28-12 on the year.
- Senior Jadon Brownlee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) posted a 2-1 record as the No. 7 seed at Heavyweight to advance to the consolation semifinals. He is now 24-20 on the season.
- Sophomore Colton Spurgeon (Mount Vernon) went 2-2 at 149 and ends his season with a 23-17 record.
- Freshman Cole Williams (Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) went 0-2 as the No. 7 seed at 197. He ends his season with a 20-13 record.
