Reed wins weight class title as No. 13 Wrestling opens 2023-24 season with third-place finish at Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE — Junior two-time All-American Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) won the 141-pound weight class title at the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team to a third-place finish in the 10-team event to open the 2023-24 season.

- Ranked No. 2 nationally at 141 pounds, Reed led the way for ONU by winning the championship in his weight class.
- Junior Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview) placed second at 165 pounds.
- Junior Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy) placed second at 174 pounds.
- Ranked sixth nationally at 184 pounds, junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) placed third in his weight class.
- Ranked 15th nationally at 133 pounds, junor Dylan Le (Dublin/Scioto) placed third in his weight class.
- Sophomore Colton Spurgeon (Mount Vernon) placed third at 149 pounds.
- Freshman Cole Williams (Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) was fourth at 197 pounds.
- Junior Jayden Jones (Ashland) placed fifth at 157 pounds.
- Senior Jadon Brownlee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) was fifth at 285 pounds.
- Junior Colin Mellott (Wapakoneta) placed seventh at 125 pounds.
- Freshman Clayton Smith (Utica) placed eighth at 157 pounds.
- Junior Nick Campbell (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) placed eighth at 174 pounds.
- Freshman Hunter Probasco (Williamsport/Westfall) was eighth at 285 pounds.
