Women's Lacrosse drops hard-fought 14-11 decision to Otterbein

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team dropped a tight 14-11 Ohio Athletic Conference contest to Otterbein on a cold and wet Wednesday evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (6-6 overall, 0-3 OAC), Otterbein (7-3 overall, 3-0 OAC)

The Game
- Sophomore Rylie Kocik (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists, fifth-year senior Elizabeth Graham (Dayton/Carroll) had a 3-goal hat trick and sophomore Elena Martin (Youngstown/Canfield) had three points on two goals an assist to lead a balanced ONU offensive attack.
- Otterbein started fast, scoring three times in the first 2:58, to grab a quick 3-0 lead.
- Northern scored three of the next four goals to pull within 4-3 after the first period.
- Another 3-0 run put the Cardinals ahead 7-3 just 1:57 into the second quarter.
- Again the Polar Bears answered, this time with a 4-0 run, to draw even at 7-7 with 2:13 left in the half.
- The Cardinals scored twice more to lead 9-7 at intermission.
- Ohio Northern got goals from Martin and in the first 3:54 of the third quarter to tie the game at 9-9.
- Senior Emma Perry (Pickerington/North) scored with 1:11 left in the third quarter to get ONU within 12-11 heading into the final period.
- The Polar Bears had five fourth quarter possessions and got off six shots in the 1-goal game, but each time the Cardinal defense stiffened and kept the lead intact.
- The visitors scored twice in the final 3:29 of the contest to put the game away.
- Otterbein was led by Carli Rigel with six goals and three assists for nine points.
- ONU forced OU into 18 turnovers while committing only 11 and each team finished the night with 30 shots.
Notables
- Junior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) is now first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 139 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 83 assists and is eighth with 55 career goals.
- Graham leads the team with 31 goals and Kocik leads the team with 41 points on 25 goals and 16 assists.
- Burden has a team-best 26 assists to go with 35 points.
- Senior Chloe Millican (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) is ONU's all-time career wins leader with 17.
- Ohio Northern has now scored 10 or more goals in 11 of its 12 games this season.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her first season at Ohio Northern and has a 6-6 record, a winning percentage of .500.
