Women's Golf finishes ninth of 18 teams at Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. — The Ohio Northern women's golf team finished ninth of 18 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling on Saturday and Sunday.
The Basics
- The Polar Bears followed a first round 325 on Saturday with a 320 on Sunday to finish with a 645.
- #12 Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament with a 288-293—581, #11 Saint Catherine (Minn.) was second with an 303-295—598, #18 Carleton (Wis.) was third with a 298-321—619, Rose-Hulman (Ind.) was fourth with a 312-310—622 and #24 Grinnell (Iowa) was fifth with a 311-314—625.

ONU Individuals
- Senior Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) led the Polar Bears with a tie for 26th place finish out of 114 golfers with an 80-77—157.
- Junior Amelia Burger (Centerville) tied for 38th with an 82-79—161.
- Sophomore Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) tied for 42nd with a 79-84—163.
- Senior Torrie Smith (Kokomo, Ind./Western) tied for 50th with an 84-80—164.
Notables
- Honigford has been Medalist 20 times in 44 career tournaments.
- There were 18 varsity teams in the field, six of which are either ranked or are receiving votes in the latest Mizuno WGCA Coaches poll.
- The tournament was 36 holes.
- Junior Bekah Baumlein (Maineville/Kings) withdrew midway through the second round.
- Head coach Chad Bucci is 432-283-2 in his 11th season at the helm of the ONU women's golf team, a winning percentage of .604.
