Women's Golf wins 14-team Polar Beaver Invitational

HARROD — The Ohio Northern women's golf team won the 14-team Polar Beaver Invitational, carding a 327 on Saturday's final round.
The Basics
- The Polar Bears followed a first round 317 on Friday with a 327 on Saturday to finish with a 644 and win by nine shots.
- St. Mary's (Ind.), Wooster and Mount Saint Joseph all tied for second with 653s and Calvin (Mich.) was fifth with a 659.
- There were 13 varsity teams in the field.
- ONU Record: 50-27.
- Venue: Colonial G.C. - Harrod, Ohio.
ONU Individuals
- Senior Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) led the Polar Bears with a second place finish out of 81 golfers with a 77-78—155.
- She entered the final round just two shots off the lead and finished the tournament just one shot back.
- Sophomore Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) was eighth with an 81-81—162.
- Junior Amelia Burger (Centerville) was ninth with an 80-83—163.
- Junior and Bekah Baumlein (Mainesville/Kings) tied for 23rd with an 80-89—169.
- Senior Torrie Smith (Kokomo, Ind./Western) tied for 28th with an 86-84—170.
- Playing on the ONU "B" team, junior Rhianna Firmstone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) also tied for 28th with an 85-85—170.
Notables
- Honigford has been Medalist 20 times in 43 career tournaments.
- The tournament was played alongside the men's version, with ONU hosting the men's first round and women's second round at Colonial G.C.
- Tournament co-host Bluffton hosted the women's first round and the men's second round at Hidden Creek G.C. near Beaverdam.
- Each tournament were 36 holes.
- Head coach Chad Bucci is 432-283-2 in his 11th season at the helm of the ONU women's golf team, a winning percentage of .604.
