Four score in double figures as Women's Basketball wins 66-51 at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team got double-figure scoring from four players, including two off the bench, en route to a 66-51 victory at John Carroll on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (10-6 overall, 8-2 OAC), John Carroll (9-8 overall, 4-6 OAC)

The Game
- Fifth-year senior All-American Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led ONU with 13 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists, six steals and two blocks.
- Junior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) tallied 11 points and nine rebounds.
- Sophomore Noelle Ruane (St. Marys) and freshman Chloee Glenn (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench. Ruane was 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
- Ava Ryncarz led the Blue Streaks with 18 points.
- ONU opened the game with an 8-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Ruane and led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Polar Bears went up by 10, 24-14, on a Ruane triple with 5:41 left in the second quarter, and a 3-pointer from junior Layla Dials (Willard) put ONU up 31-19 with 1:08 left en route to a 31-21 halftime edge.
- Leading 33-27 in the third quarter, ONU put together a 15-0 run for a 48-27 edge with 2:34 left. Serbin had five points in that run to go with four from Glenn and two each from Allen, Dials and senior Peyton Warnecke (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf).
- The Polar Bears led 49-30 at the end of the third quarter en route to the victory.
- Ohio Northern made 21-of-55 field goals for 38.2% and was 7-of-23 from beyond the arc for 30.4%, while JCU was 16-of-55 from the floor for 29.1% and made 5-of-18 3-pointers for 27.8%.
- ONU made 17-of-20 free throws for 85%, and JCU was 14-of-18 from the line for 77.8%.
- The Polar Bears out-rebounded the Blue Streaks by a 40-23 margin.
- Northern finished with a 19-4 edge in second-chance points and 26-14 advantage in points in the paint.
Notables
- Ruane's 11 points marked a career-high. Her previous best was eight points in a pair of games earlier this season.
- Serbin fell just short of her single-game career-high in steals of eight, which she accomplished in her senior season. Her season-best is seven against Otterbein on Jan. 3.
- Northern is now 47-32 all-time against John Carroll, including a 23-21 mark in University Heights.
- Serbin is ONU's all-time leader in career steals with 266 and assists with 347.
- Serbin ranks eighth on ONU's all-time career scoring list with 1,129 points. She ranks fourth all-time with 161 made 3-pointers in her career, is 13th all-time in made free throws with 200, is 14th all-time in rebounds with 523 and 14th all-time with 384 made field goals.
- Serbin is the only women's basketball player in ONU history to tally at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals in her career.
- Fourth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 59-27 at Ohio Northern for a winning percentage of .686.
