GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ohio Northern softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at No. 24-ranked Calvin (Mich.) on Wednesday.
CC won the opener 4-0 and ONU rallied to take the nightcap 3-1.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (21-13 overall), Calvin (22-8 overall).
- Venue: Gainey Athletic Facility - Grand Rapids, Mich.
Game 1 - L, 0-4
- Calvin scored in two different innings, scoring one run in the bottom of the second inning and three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- Calvin out-hit Ohio Northern 6-2.
- Sophomores Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) and Kylie King (London/Jonathan Alder) had the only two hits for ONU.
- Senior Kayla Runyon (Tipp City) pitched a complete game for the Polar Bears.
Game 2 - W, 3-1
- Wilson hit a solo homer in the top of the second inning to start off scoring for ONU.
- Also in the top of the second, junior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) singled home freshman Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) to make the score 2-0.
- ONU scored again in the top of the fifth inning on a single by fifth-year senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) that scored junior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg).
- Calvin answered with one run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 3-1.
- Junior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) pitched a complete game for the Polar Bears, only allowing three hits and striking out eight.
- Ohio Northern out-hit Calvin 7-3.
Notables
- Rosser finished 2-for-4 on the day with two hits and an RBI for ONU.
- Motylinski now has 144 career base hits and 102 career RBIs. She ranks tied for 10th all-time in ONU history with her 102 RBIs.
- Motylinski is also fourth all-time in home runs with 24.
- Wilson, Rosser and Motylinski lead Ohio Northern in batting through 34 games this season with averages of .406, .405 and .375, respectively.
