Men’s Tennis garners five All-OAC selections, Sean Swisher named Coach of the Year

ADA — Five members of the Ohio Northern men's tennis team were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2023 in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.
Sophomore Tristan Munteanu (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon) was named to the All-OAC First Team.
Sophomores Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) and Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and junior Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) were All-Conference Second Team selections, and sophomore Drew Swisher (Findlay) earned Honorable Mention accolades.
The conference also named first-year head coach Sean Swisher as the league's Coach of the Year.
This marks the second All-OAC honor for Munteanu, who was named to the Second Team in 2022.
A 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team selection, Munteanu was named OAC Player of the Week on March 6 and finished the season with a record of 30-20, including 13-13 in singles play and 17-7 in doubles. He led the Polar Bears in overall wins and doubles victories playing exclusively at No. 1 singles and primarily at No. 3 doubles.
In two years at ONU, Munteanu is 42-31 overall, including 24-20 in singles and 18-11 in doubles.
Sran and Specht joined Munteanu as CSC Academic All-District selections this season and are now two-time All-OAC Second Team honorees.
Sran was 17-8 in singles and 12-13 in doubles for an overall mark of 29-21 this season He played primarily at No. 3 singles and exclusively at No. 1 doubles.
In his ONU career, Sran is 54-31 overall, including 39-15 in singles and 15-16 in doubles.
Specht earned OAC Player of the Week status on Feb. 27 and closed the year with an overall mark of 27-22, including 15-10 in singles and 12-12 in doubles. He played primarily at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles.
Specht is 62-35 in his ONU career, including 35-14 in singles and 27-21 in doubles.
Desai earned his second career All-OAC honor after being named as an Honorable Mention selection as a freshman in 2021.
He finished the season with an overall record of 29-12, including 15-7 in singles and 14-5 in doubles. He played primarily at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.
In three seasons at ONU, Desai is 40-17 overall, including 22-11 in singles and 18-6 in doubles.
Swisher joined Munteanu, Sran and Spect on the CSC Academic All-District Team this season and finished the year with an overall record of 29-19, including 16-7 in singles and 13-12 in doubles. He played primarily at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles.
Swisher is 62-28 overall in his ONU career, including 27-11 in singles and 35-17 in doubles.
Coach Sean Swisher guided the Polar Bears to a 13-8 record, including a 5-1 mark in OAC play, in 2022-23. Northern shared the league's Regular Season championship with Otterbein and John Carroll, earning its second straight Regular Season title. ONU closed the season by winning its second straight OAC Tournament championship to claim the program's seventh NCAA Tournament berth.
