Men's Tennis competes at ITA Regional Championships at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team competed at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Friday at Kalamazoo.
Freshman Sam Sran (PB, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) went 2-2 in singles to lead the Polar Bears in the non-scoring event.
Sran fell to Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk of Lake Forest (Ill.) 6-0, 6-0 in his first match on Friday to fall into the consolation bracket, where he defeated Matt McGee of Baldwin Wallace 6-4, 6-2.
On Saturday, Sran advanced to the Consolation Quarterfinals with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 victory over Juan Segovia of Principia (Ill.)
He was eliminated in the Consolation Semifinals by Javier Suarez Balsera of North Central (Ill.) 6-3, 6-1.
The doubles team of freshman Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and freshman Drew Swisher (Findlay) went 1-1, defeating Leonardo Abreu and Colin Welch of Capital 8-2 before falling to Sachin Das and Arjun Asokumar of Chicago (Ill.) 8-0.
Specht fell to Gabe Vidinas of Kalamazoo 6-1, 6-3, and to Jonathan Powell of Case Western Reserve 6-0, 6-2 in singles play on Friday.
