Men's Tennis wins second straight with 9-0 sweep of Catholic (D.C.)

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team won its second consecutive match on Thursday morning as it swept Catholic (D.C.) 9-0 at Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Cardinals drop to 3-5.
Sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while freshman Drew Sarno (Elida) earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles to lead Northern.
The Polar Bears got off to a quick start, taking a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
At No. 1 doubles, freshman Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) teamed up with fellow freshman Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) to post an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, while senior Cody Hurley (Centerville) and junior Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) teamed up to post a 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 2 doubles.
Christian and Sarno would also team up and claim an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Polar Bears completed the sweep as Thai won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Do won 6-3, 1-6, 10-3 at No. 2 singles, Kargl won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and sophomore Tyler Frantz (Bellefontaine) won 3-6, 6-1, 10-3 at No. 5 singles.
Northern will wrap its spring break trip up Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. as it takes on Bridgewater (Va.) at the Shipyard Racquet Court.
