Men's Tennis opens spring schedule with victories over Albion (Mich.), Olivet (Mich.)

ALBION, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 7-2 victory at Albion (Mich.) and a 9-0 victory over Olivet (Mich.) on Saturday at the Ungrodt Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 overall, while Albion falls to 1-2 and Olivet falls to 1-3.
On Saturday afternoon against Albion, Northern started the match by sweeping the doubles courts.
Freshmen Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) and Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) rallied from 5-0 and 6-1 deficits to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Jake Abbott (Kenton) and sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia) won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and junior Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and senior Cody Hurley (Centerville) won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Northern then clinched the match by winning four of the six singles courts.
Thai posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1, Do won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Abbott won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and sophomore Tyler Frantz (Bellefontaine) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
On Saturday evening against Olivet, ONU swept all nine courts in straight sets.
Thai and Do won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, Kargl and Abbott won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and Hurley and Frantz won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Thai won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Do won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, Kargl won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Abbott won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, Frantz won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Hurley won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday with road matches at Francisan and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.)
