Thai’s Perfect Weekend Leads Men’s Tennis to Second Place Finish at Kerry Seward Invitational

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Freshman Do Thai went a perfect 6-0 on the weekend to lead the Ohio Northern men's tennis team to a second place finish at the Kerry Seward Invitational hosted by Wabash (Ind.).
The field featured three regionally ranked teams lead by No. 13 Coe (Iowa) followed by No. 17 Carthage (Wisc.) and No. 18 Ohio Northern.
Coe (Crimson) won the tournament with 59 points, while the Polar Bears finished second at 55 points and Wabash (Ind.) rounded out the top three with 51 points.
Thai won the No. 3 singles flight, pulling out two, 3-set victories in the process. He defeated Matt Whiteside of Carthage in the final by a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 score.
He teamed with junior Michael Kathary to win the No. 2 doubles flight.
Kathary would finish fourth in the No. 2 singles flight following a 6-3, 6-4 win over Zach Lowry of Wabash in the final round.
The two flight victories were the first ever for the Polar Bears in the tournament.
Kathary now has a team-leading 21 wins on the season, while Thai has notched 18 victories.
Sophomore Joey Frank finished second at No. 1 singles. Frank upset second seed Victor Khristenko in the semifinals by a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 score, before falling in the championship round to Carthage's Jeff Lotz, 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman Blake Troller notched a second place finish at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Josh Saunders finished third at No. 5 singles, while junior Nick Kowalczyk finished fourth at No. 4 singles. Senior Jeff Carter and junior Andrew Korba teamed up and finished third at No. 3 doubles.
The Polar Bears will be in again on Wednesday when they host Indiana Tech at 4 p.m. at University Courts.
