MISENHEIMER, Va. — Sophomore Colin Willits (West Chester/Lakota West) scored with .2 seconds left to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 10-9 victory at Pfeiffer (N.C.) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (5-2 overall), Pfeiffer (2-6 overall)
- Venue: Lefko Field - Misenheimer, N.C.
The Game
- Freshman Mitchel Luck (Linden, Mich.) took a shot with two seconds left, which was saved by PC's goalie Oliver Buch.
- But Willits picked up the rebound and scored from point-blank range with only .2 seconds left to break the 9-9 tie.
- Pfeiffer tied the game with a goal with 2:23 left in the game.
- The teams traded turnovers and ONU took possession with 1:22 left.
- A penalty by the Eagles gave the polar Bears a 30 second man-up advantage with 40 seconds left.
- Senior John Lynn (Cincinnati / Sycamore) missed wide with a shot with seven seconds left and the game appeared headed into overtime with the hosts back at full strength.
- But Luck got off a nasty shot and Willits followed with a put-back to give ONU the win.
- In all, seven different Ohio Northern players scored with Luck posting his second consecutive three-goal hat trick.
- Senior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) added two goals for ONU.
- The game was tight throughout as it was tied 2-2 after the first quarter, 4-4 at halftime and 7-7 after three periods.
- Senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had 10 saves on 19 shots on goal for the visitors.
- PC out-shot ONU 39-30 and won the ground ball battle 37-26.

- Dempsey now has 108 points in his career. He ranks fourth with 76 career goals and is sixth with 33 assists.
- Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won five faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 331 for his career.
- Senior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) is sixth at ONU with 62 career goals, is seventh with 28 assists and is seventh with 90 points.
- Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his ninth season at Ohio Northern with an 84-44 record and has a winning percentage of .656.
