ADA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team jumped to a 5-3 lead, but eventually fell 9-5 to Baldwin Wallace in a battle of league leaders on a beautiful Wednesday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears drop to 10-4 overall and are 5-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 13-2, 7-0.
Sophomore Caleb Bennett (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a pair of goals in the first 12:10 of the contest as Ohio Northern led 3-1 early on.
Senior Riley O'Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) scored with three seconds left as ONU led 4-2 after the first period.
After a BW goal, senior Ethan Hojnacki (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) would find the net with 9:49 left in the half as the Polar Bears extended the lead to 5-3.
But the ONU offense would go silent as Baldwin Wallace would score the game's final six goals to rally for the 9-5 victory.
The game was tied at 5-5 at halftime and the Yellow Jackets led 6-5 entering the fourth quarter.
BW scored goals at the 10:08 mark and the 7:12 mark of the final period before icing it with a tally with 2:52 left.
Senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had 13 saves on 22 shots on goal for ONU.
Baldwin Wallace out-shot Ohio Northern 35-29 and won the turnover battle 18-13.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday at Capital.
