MARIETTA — Junior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) scored six goals to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 15-6 win over Marietta on Saturday at Don Drumm Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while dropping the Pioneers to 5-6, 3-2.
Michaud also had an assist in the game, giving him seven points. He now has 25 points on 19 goals and six assists this season.
Junior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) added six points on three goals and three assists, and senior Andrew Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) had a game-high seven ground balls for ONU.
Senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) earned the win in goal to improve to 8-3 on the season after playing all 60 minutes and recording eight saves.
Connor Ficke led the Pioneers with four points on two goals and two assists.
Saturday's game was low-scoring in the early going. Junior John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored just 55 seconds into the game, and the Polar Bears took that 1-0 lead into the second period.
Marietta tied the score with 12:47 left in the second quarter, but ONU closed the first half on a 6-0 run for a 7-1 halftime edge. Northern got two goals each from Dempsey and Michaud during that stretch.
Michaud scored three of ONU's six third-quarter goals, sparking the Polar Bears to a 13-4 lead going into the fourth period en route to the victory.
Northern out-shot MC 50-23 and finished with a 38-32 edge in ground balls.
The Polar Bears return to action on Monday at OAC foe Wilmington at 7 p.m. for a game that was rescheduled from April 5 due to inclement weather.
