KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern men's golf team posted a 2-0 record during its spring break trip, defeating North Central (Ill.) 18-5 on Tuesday and Muskingum 24.5-16.5 on Wednesday at the Orange Lake Resort golf course.
The Polar Bears improve to 17-15 on the season.
Both contests were 36-hole affairs using a modified Ryder Cup-style format.
Against NCC on Wednesday, freshman Bradon Wooldridge (Piketon) scored five team points to lead Ohio Northern.
Every ONU player contributed at least one point with sophomores Austin White (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) and Andrew Slusher (Covington) and freshmen Josh Steyer (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Matt Russo (Medina/Akron Bishop Hoban) scoring two points each.
On Tuesday against the Muskies, freshman Alex Cabungcal (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) scored 5 points to lead the Polar Bears.
Sophomores Nolan Kimberly (Zanesville), Jared Hernandez (Van Wert) and Sam Straker (Zanesville) and freshman Andrew Lyon (Ottawa Hills) scored two points each.
But the highlight of the spring break trip came during a practice round on Monday when Slusher and Hernandez each aced the par 3 7th hole at Polo Trace Golf Club. The hole played 125 yards and they both used a wedge to record the unusual feat.
The Polar Bears will return to action March 28-29 at the Muskingum Spring Invitational.
