Five score in double figures as Men's Basketball defeats Capital 88-81 for sixth straight win

ADA — All five starters scored in double figures to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to an 88-81 victory over Capital on Saturday afternoon for its sixth straight victory.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (9-6 overall, 4-4 OAC), Capital (9-6 overall, 3-5 OAC)

The Game
- Freshman Carter Reese (Westerville/North) led ONU in scoring with 20 points to go with three rebounds, five assists and five steals.
- Junior Blake Michael (Fremont/St. Joseph Central Catholic) added 17 points, and sophomore Will Miller (Ottoville) finished with 14 points.
- Freshmen Cayden Jacoby (Pettisville) and Jadi Cunningham Jr. (Columbus/Westerville South) scored 10 points each. Cunningham Jr. added five rebounds, four assists and four steals to his stat line.
- Baden Forup led four Comet double-figure scorers with 17 points.
- Capital built an early 20-11 lead, but ONU responded with a 15-6 run to tie the score at 26-all with 4:43 left in the first half.
- The Comets led 39-34 at halftime.
- ONU outscored CU 54-42 in the second half.
- A layup from sophomore Hayden Hanson (Cedarville) followed by a 3-pointer from Reese put ONU up 57-53 with 11:28 left, and the Polar Bears held the lead from there on out. The lead was as big as 13 points.
- Ohio Northern made 32-of-53 field goal attempts for 60.4% and was 6-of-14 from 3-point range for 42.9%.
- Capital was 34-of-62 shooting for 54.8% and was 5-of-15 on 3-pointers for 33.3%.
- ONU was 18-of-24 from the foul line for 75%, and CU was 8-of-10 for 80%.
- Capital out-rebounded Ohio Northern by a 30-24 margin and held a 21-6 edge in second-chance points.
- ONU scored 34 points off of 21 Capital turnovers.
Notables
- The six-game win streak is the team's longest since it won 10 straight games during the 2016-17 season.
- Michael matched his career-high point total. He also scored 17 points against Olivet (Mich.) on Dec. 21.
- Reese has scored in double figures in 12 games this season. He has scored 20-plus points in six of the past nine games.
- Reese recorded a career-high in steals in the game.
- Ohio Northern is now 64-84 all-time against Capital, including a 41-31 mark in Ada. The Comets had won seven straight meetings entering Saturday.
- Ohio Northern is playing its 113th season of varsity men's basketball and has a record of 1367-1071, a winning percentage of .561.
- Head coach Neal Young is in his second season at Ohio Northern with a 19-21 record.
