Former Ohio Northern standouts named to Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

ADA — Ohio Northern alumni and former baseball standouts Dave King and Chris Kubbs have been inducted into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019.
King is a 1974 graduate of ONU and was inducted into the Ohio Northern Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016-17.
He has coached high school baseball for 39 seasons, amassing a record of 603-389-3. He coached at Sydney High School for 25 seasons and has been the head baseball coach at Sidney Lehman since 2006.
He was a four-year letter-winner and co-captain of the ONU baseball team as well as a one-year letter-winner in cross country and manager of the men's basketball team. His versatility was displayed on the baseball diamond.
He was an NAIA District 22 All-American outfielder as a freshman in 1971 before changing positions and earning first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and second-team Mid-East Regional accolades as a second baseman as a senior in 1974.
During his senior year, the Polar Bears won the OAC title and advanced to the NCAA World Series, finishing third among all Division II and Division III schools.
He led the team in hits, with 30, as a freshman, and in walks for three straight years (1971-73) as well as sacrifice bunts as a junior in 1973.
For his achievements, King was the "ONU All-Sports Letterman of the Year" in 1974 and president of the Lettermen Club.
Kubbs graduated with a bachelor's degree from Ohio Northern in 1980.
He has served as the head baseball coach at Marion Pleasant since 1996 after five seasons as head coach at Mt. Gilead HS, posting an overall record of 515-220.
Over the last 23 seasons, the Pleasant Spartan Baseball Teams have won 17 league titles, 16 sectional titles, 10 district titles, 2 regional runner-ups, 3 regional championships, 2 state championships, in 2001 & 2006.
He was also the head football coach at Pleasant, going 220-66 with 19 league titles and two state championships since 1989.
He was a letterman in both baseball and football at Ohio Northern.
In three seasons on the Polar Bear varsity football team, Kubbs rushed for 1,166 yards, which ranks him 25th on the school's all-time career list.
In his senior season, he rushed for 1,037 yards in football and helped the baseball team to a 29-11-1 record and the OAC North Division Championships.
