MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team remained perfect in Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday night inside Ban Johnson Arena. The No. 12 Polar Bears defeated Marietta 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 25-14) to improve to 14-3 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Senior McKenna Jordan (Toledo / St. Ursula) led the way for Northern with 16 kills. The Polar Bears, as a whole, logged 58 kills, 96 digs and 56 assists. ONU — which stretched its win streak to eight games — laid claim to a .236 hitting percentage.
Senior Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) added 14 kills and six digs. senior McKenna Hostetler (Plain City / Alder) and sophomore Hannah Irmer (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) recorded 23 and 19 digs, respectively, while junior Katie Wade (Battle Creek, Mich. / Harper Creek) boasted 31 assists.
The Polar Bears got progressively more efficient as the night wore on. The first two sets saw them make six errors apiece. ONU only made four errors in the third set and zero in the fourth and final set, which also featured 19 kills for the Polar Bears.
Northern returns to Ada and host Baldwin Wallace Tuesday at 7 p.m.
