Junior Haley Potters and freshman Chelsea Huppert lead Volleyball in 4-set victory over John Carroll

ADA -- Junior Haley Potters (Wheelersburg/South Webster) and freshman Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) posted 14 and 13 kills, respectively, to lead the Ohio Northern volleyball team to a 4-set victory over John Carroll Saturday afternoon the DeCarlo Center.
The Polar Bears extend their winning streak to 12 matches and improve to 20-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks fall to 13-10, 3-2.
As a team, Northern hit an astounding .333, while six players hit .308 or better.
Potters, Huppert, and senior Ashley Borchers (Russia/Russia) each added two blocks to lead ONU defensively.
Borchers posted a double-double for ONU, recording a game-high 45 assists and adding 12 digs.
Junior libero Megan Nieszala (Lambertville, Mich./St. Marys Catholic Central) posted a game-high 29 digs, while freshman McKenna Jordan (Toledo/St. Ursula) and sophomore Michaela Sharlow (Tiffin/Columbian) added 11 digs each.
Senior Claire Heitkamp (Maria Stein/Marion Local) added 11 kills for Northern.
After falling in a 3-1 hole early in the first set, Northern would use a 4-0 run capped off by a kill from Jordan to take a 5-3 lead.
JCU would close the gap to 6-5, but couldn't manage to get any closer as Northern went on to win the first set 25-16.
The Polar Bears wasted no time in the second set, as they jumped out to an early 7-2 lead behind two kills from Potters.
After Northern pulled ahead 21-10 in the second set, the two teams would exchange points on the next seven volleys, before Huppert sealed the 25-14 victory with a kill.
JCU was able to climb back in the match after edging Northern in the third set 27-25.
The Polar Bears would fight back in the fourth set and use an early 12-3 lead to help seal a convincing 25-9 fourth set victory.
Alexa Webber led the Blue Streaks with 14 kills.
The Polar Bears return to action Tuesday evening at 7 pm as they host Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center.
