Senior Taylor Ellerbrock leads Women’s Outdoor Track and Field at first day of Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) placed second in the unseeded 5,000 meters event to lead the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team in the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium at Bucknell (Pa.) on Friday.
Ellerbrock ran a time of 18:20.47 in the 5,000 meters, finishing just 5 seconds back of winner Andrine Larsen, of Division I Lehigh (Pa.)
Senior Rue Whitmore (Mason) led a trio of Polar Bears in the unseeded 10,000 meters event, placing sixth with a time of 39:03.61.
Sophomore Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was eighth with a time of 39:11.25, and freshman Ashley Hockstok was 11th with a time of 41:03.13.
Senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) placed 22nd in the invitational 10,000 meters, running a personal-best time of 36:26.25, which ranks third in program history.
The Polar Bears are competing as a split squad this weekend and will be in action on Saturday for the final day of the Bison Outdoor Classic as well as the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio Wesleyan.
