ADA — The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has awarded junior All-American Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) and senior Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) All-Great Lakes Region honors for the 2019 outdoor season, the national office announced on Sunday.
Krause was named to the All-Great Lakes Region squad in the pole vault, while Ewing garnered all-region kudos in the 800-meter run.
To be recognized, a student-athlete must finish among the top-five individual or top-three relay performances in an event on their respective NCAA Division III regional performance list.
Krause garnered the award with the top pole vault effort in the Great Lakes Region this season at 3.88 meters (12' 8.75"), which she established Wednesday at the Gregory Invitational. The effort tied her career-best performance in the event and moved the junior into seventh on the NCAA Division III national performance list.
Through three seasons at Ohio Northern, Krause has received four USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors.
Meanwhile, Ewing earned her seventh career all-region award after posting the third-fastest 800-meter run time.
On Thursday evening, the senior notched a career-best in the 800 at the Gregory Invitational with a 2:13.47 clocking for a third-place finish at the meet. In addition, the effort moved her into 24th on the NCAA Division III performance list, leaping 26 spots from her standing prior to the race.
The duo will represent Ohio Northern this weekend at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Krause will compete in the pole vault on Thursday, and Ewing will compete in the 800 prelims on Friday.
