ADA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened up its season with a 8-1 victory over St. Francis (Ind.) Thursday afternoon at the University Courts.
The Polar Bears move to 1-0 on the year while St.Francis falls too 3-4 on the season.
ONU swept all three doubles courts to go out to a 3-0 lead.
Senior Michelle Tuma teamed up with junior Christina Corbean to win 8-1 at No. 1 doubles while junior Meghan Letizia and freshman Amber Lee topped their opponents 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles junior Taryn Stromback and freshman Lynn Kelly were victorious by a score of 8-0.
In singles action Letizia and Lee both picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
At No. 3 singles Kelly defeated her opponent by a score of 6-0, 6-1, while Corbean took No.2 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Freshman Morgan Schaeffer was victorious at No. 6 singles by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday-Sunday as they travel to the Oberlin Invitational.
