Six Polar Bears named to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team

ADA — Six Ohio Northern student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team for the 2022 season.
Senior goalkeeper Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame), junior defenders Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) and Bri Straus (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), junior forward Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll), sophomore midfielder Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville) and sophomore forward Elizabeth Pierce (Liberty Township/Mount Notre Dame) were each named Academic All-District.
This marks the first career CSC Academic All-District accolade for all six student-athletes.
Moss put together an outstanding senior season in 2022, earning First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year. The marketing major played all 1,910 minutes of ONU's 21 games, recording a program single-season record 15 shutouts, including a stretch of nine straight from Oct. 12 to Nov. 12. A member of the OAC All-Tournament Team, Moss finished the season with 48 saves, a 0.42 GAA and .842 save percentage. She led the OAC in GAA and ranked second in save percentage.
Moss' 15 career shutouts rank ninth all-time at ONU, and her 0.42 GAA is second-lowest for a single season in program history.
Cabana and Straus were key members of the ONU defense that limited opponents to 5.6 shots, including just 2.6 on goal, per game in 2022. They were each selected as OAC Defensive Player of the Week once during the season.
Cabana was selected to the All-OAC First Team as Co-Defender of the Year in the conference. An All-OAC Third Team and Academic All-OAC selection as a sophomore, the biology and pre-dentistry major finished tied for the team lead with 18 points on the season. She started all 21 games, tallying six goals and six assists. Cabana has started 42 of her 44 career games and will enter her senior season with 29 points on nine goals and 11 assists.
Straus was named to the All-OAC Second Team for the second straight season after earning First Team honors in 2020. An Academic All-OAC selection last season, the exercise physiology major recorded five points on two goals and one assist this year. Those goals came in a 2-0 win over Baldwin Wallace on Oct. 26, marking the first goals of her career. Straus has started in all 53 games in her ONU career.
Roberts was an All-OAC First Team and OAC All-Tournament selection this season. The biology and Spanish major is now a three-time All-OAC pick after being named to the Second Team as a sophomore and Honorable Mention as a freshman. An Academic All-OAC honoree as a sophomore, Roberts tallied 15 points on six goals and three assists this season and scored the game-winning goal in the OAC Tournament championship game. She has started in all 54 games in her ONU career and has 31 points on 12 goals and seven assists to her credit.
Bowman was named to the All-OAC Second Team this season after recording a conference-best nine assists to go with one goal. An All-OAC Tournament pick as a freshman, the nursing major put herself in the ONU record books in 2022, as her assist total is tied for 10th in program history for a single season and ranks third-best all-time on the single-season list among sophomores. She has started in all 41 games in her ONU career and has 17 points on two goals and 13 assists.
Pierce recorded eight points on three goals and two assists in starting 20 of her 21 games in 2022. The mechanical engineering major has started 40 of her 43 games in her ONU career and will enter her junior season with 16 points on six goals and four assists.
The CSC Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
First, Second and Third Team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
The Polar Bears finished the season at 14-2-5 overall, earning a share of the conference regular season championship en route to winning the OAC Tournament and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
