ADA — Ohio Northern senior Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame), junior Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) and sophomore Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) headline a list of six Polar Bears earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in women's soccer for the 2022 season in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.
Moss was named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year, Cabana was selected as the Co-Defender of the Year, and Beckett earned Midfielder of the Year honors.
Junior Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll) joined those three on the All-OAC First Team.
Junior Bri Straus (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and sophomore Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville) were selected to the All-OAC Second Team.
Moss was named the conference's top goalkeeper after putting together a stellar season that also saw her named to the OAC All-Tournament Team. She earns her first All-Conference accolade after playing the entirety of all 19 games this season and producing 14 shutouts along with 38 saves, a 0.42 GAA and .826 save percentage. She leads the OAC in shutouts and GAA and ranks second in save percentage.
Moss continues a trend of great goalkeeping at ONU, as this marks the third straight year that a Polar Bear goalie has been named the Goalkeeper of the Year in the conference. Kristy Catrine earned the accolade in 2020 and 2021.
With her 14 shutouts, Moss has tied the school record for shutouts in a season and ranks ninth all-time in career shutouts. Her current 0.42 GAA is second-lowest all-time for a single season at ONU.
An All-OAC Third Team selection as a sophomore, Cabana earns a First Team nod this season as the conference's Co-Defender of the Year. Cabana has started all 19 games as part of a stingy ONU defense that helped Moss accrue her 14 shutouts. The defense has limited opponents to just 2.42 shots on goal and 0.42 goals per game and has produced eight straight shutouts.
Named OAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6, Cabana has also proven to be a force offensively. She ranks second on the team with six assists and 16 points and third on the team with five goals. Her assist and point totals rank tied for fourth and tied for 10th, respectively, in the OAC.
Beckett earns her second straight All-OAC First Team accolade and was selected as the conference's Midfielder of the Year on the strength of her team-high eight goals and 18 points to go with two assists in starting 17 games this season. She is tied for eighth in the conference in goals and ranks ninth in points. Beckett, who was named OAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6, is ONU's first Midfielder of the Year selection since 2017.
Roberts, a forward, earns the third All-Conference accolade of her career. This year's First Team selection comes after she was an Honorable Mention pick as a freshman and Second Team selection as a sophomore. Roberts has 15 points on six goals and three assists in starting all 19 games this season. She ranks second on the team in goals and third in points and has a team-best four game-winning goals on the season. She was named to the OAC All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winner in ONU's 1-0 win at Capital in the championship game.
Straus joins Roberts as a three-time All-OAC selection. She was a First Team pick in 2020 and a Second Team selection in 2021. She has started all 19 games in joining Cabana as another key member of the ONU defense. Offensively, Straus has five points on two goals and one assist this season. She scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Baldwin Wallace on Oct. 26, marking the first goals of her career, and she was subsequently named OAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 31.
Bowman rounds out ONU's All-Conference selections for 2022 as another Second Team selection, marking the first All-OAC accolade of her career. The midfielder has started all 19 games this season and has 11 points on one goal and a team- and OAC-high nine assists. Her assist total is tied for 10th in program history for a single season and ranks third-best all-time on the single-season list among sophomores.
Currently riding a 13-game unbeaten streak, the Polar Bears (13-1-5) went 7-0-2 in conference play to share the OAC Regular Season championship with Capital en route to winning their second straight OAC Tournament title.
As the winner of the conference tournament, Northern earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will play Rose-Hulman (Ind.) at host Loras (Iowa) in the first round on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
