BEXLEY — Freshman Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) scored her first career hat trick within six minutes of game time Saturday afternoon to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 3-3 draw with Capital after two overtime periods at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Polar Bears (9-4-3 overall, 5-1-1 OAC) held a 3-1 lead after Beckett's third goal of the game, but the Comets (7-6-2, 6-0-1) responded with two goals in the final 40 minutes of regulation.
Capital's Lexi Snider opened the scoring Saturday with a goal 10:18 into the game off an assist from Mia Gambaccini before Beckett started her scoring spree.
Beckett's first goal, which came off an assist from sophomore Alaina Casey (Beavercreek/Carroll), tied the score at 1-all with 3:11 left in the opening half.
Beckett gave ONU its first lead of the game just 1:14 into the second half with a goal assisted by sophomore Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.).
The lead grew to 3-1 when Beckett completed her hat trick 2:48 into the second half with her fourth goal of the season on a header off a corner by freshman Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich.).
That lead wouldn't hold, however, as Capital scored two unanswered goals courtesy of Sophia Leonetti and Avery Hart.
Hart's game-tying goal came off an assist from Brooke Shutler with 14:36 remaining in regulation.
With 12 seconds remaining in the first overtime, Catrine saved the potentially winning goal on a Haley Moore header from a CU corner kick.
In the final 45 seconds, a loose ball around the net was swatted away by the ONU defense to preserve the 3-3 tie.
With neither team registering a shot after the Comets tied the game in regulation, CU led 3-2 in shots in the first overtime period, and both teams had one shot apiece in the second OT.
The Comets out-shot the Polar Bears 21-13, and CU led 8-7 in shots on goal.
ONU held the advantage on corners, 5-4.
Ohio Northern will return to action Wednesday night in a pivotal OAC game against conference leader Otterbein at home at Kerscher Stadium at 7 p.m.
