ADA — Thanks to a goal from senior Tara Morris (Monroe), the Ohio Northern women's soccer team scored a 1-0 victory over John Carroll on Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (9-3-2, 5-0-0 OAC) have now won five straight games by a combined score of 11-0.
Saturday's loss dropped the Blue Streaks to 6-8-1 overall and 1-4-0 in conference play.
ONU out-shot JCU 6-1 in a scoreless first half Saturday but finally found the back of the net early in the second half.
Off of a corner kick from freshman Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville), Morris headed the ball past JCU senior goalkeeper Danielle DelGiudice for her second goal of the season that put the Polar Bears on the scoreboard 12 minutes into the second half.
The ONU defense and senior goalkeeper Kristy Catrine (Springboro) held the Blue Streaks scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the shutout victory.
Catrine tallied three saves in the victory and recorded her conference-leading ninth shutout of the season.
Catrine, who also entered Saturday's game leading the Ohio Athletic Conference in save percentage and GAA, now has 17 career shutouts, tying her with Kristin DeWees for seventh all-time on the ONU career leaderboard in that category.
The Polar Bears finished the game with a 10-4 edge in shot attempts and 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio Northern will look to continue its winning ways when it returns to the field on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game at Heidelberg.
