ADA — Senior Rose Nienaber (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) recorded the first hat trick in Kerscher Stadium history as the Ohio Northern women's soccer team earned a convincing 5-0 victory over Oberlin on Tuesday evening.
With seven points in the match, Nienaber also broke junior Jenna Fuller's (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) stadium record for points in a match. Fuller registered six points on two goals and two assists against Baldwin Wallace in 2017.
Nienaber is the first Polar Bear to register a hat trick since McKenna Welsh in 2015.
In addition to Nienaber's hat trick, ONU (4-1-2 overall) also got two goals from Fuller.
Oberlin falls to 2-4-1.
Fuller vaulted into a tie for 8th on Ohio Northern's list of career points with 84. She also moved to 10th on Ohio Northern's list of all-time goal scorers with 34 career goals. Fuller has now scored five goals in the last three games, with six on the season.
In the 18th minute, Nienaber provided the lone goal of the first half on a header off a cross to the back post from junior Megan Breier (Plainfield, Ill./North). Sophomore Tara Morris (Monroe) also recorded an assist on the play.
Northern put relentless pressure on the Oberlin defense in the second half, generating four goals in the first 21 minutes.
Fuller scored in the 48th minute on a Nienaber assist and Nienaber scored on a Fuller assist in the 58th minute.
Nienaber scored just 90 seconds later in the 59th minute to put the Polar Bears up 4-0.
In the 66th minute, Fuller capped the evening's scoring off a feed from senior Haley Moses (Mason).
Senior Meagan Grierson (Dayton/Miamisburg) recorded her 35th career shutout to extend her school record.
ONU outshot OC 27-1 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Twenty-seven different Polar Bears saw action in the match.
Ohio Northern returns to the pitch Friday, traveling to No. 13-ranked Case Western Reserve for a 7:30 p.m. match.
