UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern softball team pounded out 13 base hits and scored nine runs in a 9-2 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at John Carroll on Monday at Bracken Field.
Sophomore Annika Murray (Hilliard/Bradley) hit a home to lead the Polar Bears (8-5-1 overall, 7-4 OAC) to its fifth consecutive victory.
The Blue Streaks fall to 4-9, 4-7.
Junior Lauren Renner (Columbus/Hilliard Bradley) had a 2-run single to key a 5-run third inning that gave ONU an early 6-0 lead.
Murray's 2-run shot in the fourth put Ohio Northern up 8-2.
Junior Stacey Walters (Sunbury/Big Walnut) threw a complete-game 6-hitter, striking out three, to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Murray, Renner and sophomore Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) each had three base hits to lead the ONU offense.
The Polar Bears will return to action with a 4-game series this weekend with Mount Union. Northern will play at UMU in a double header on Friday and will host the Purple Raiders in a twin-bill on Saturday at the ONU Softball Field.
