TIFFIN -- Freshman Kylie Asmus led the Ohio Northern softball team as they split a twin-bill with Heidelberg 8-3, 1-2 Saturday afternoon at Frann's Field in Tiffin.
The Polar Bears improve to 21-15 overall and 10-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Student Princes fall to 22-10, 9-7.
Asmus led the way for Northern offensively as she went a combined 5-for-9 at the plate and added a run.
Lahti hit her 2nd home run of the year in game one for Northern.
HU jumped out to a quick lead in game one as they scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning.
The Polar Bears were able to respond in the top of the third inning after sophomore Miranda Huddle was walked in a bases load situation and junior Megan Hupp scored.
On the ensuing at bat sophomore Leanna Henry reached on a fielders choice and sophomores Kirsten Lightel and Jenna Hollar were able to score on an error from the second basemen to give Northern the 3-2 lead.
In the fourth inning, senior Amanda Lahti would help Northern add two more as she hit a two RBI double to left center field and plated Asmus and Hollar and push the lead to 5-2.
Lahti would again extend the Polar Bear lead in the top of the sixth inning as she hit a solo shot over the left field fence give ONU a 6-2 lead.
The Student Princes were able to cut into the lead as they posted a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within 6-3.
Northern would close the door in the top of the seventh inning as sophomore Anna Martin and Hollar were able to score and seal the 8-3 victory.
In game two freshman Hailee Loughman put Northern on the board in the top of the fourth inning as she hit a sacrifice fly to center field and plated Lightel to give Northern a 1-0 lead.
Heidelberg would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and seal the game two victory as they plated two runs.
Northern will return to action Tuesday as they play host to Anderson (Ind.) in non-conference action at 2 pm.
