Saturday's Meet: The Ohio Northern men's cross country team opens its 2022 season on Saturday by hosting the Polar Bear Invitational on the ONU campus … The course will start and finish near the King Horn Sports Center … The men's 6k race begins at 10 a.m. … ONU, Heidelberg, Bluffton, Trine (Ind.) and a team of ONU alumni are expected to compete … The Polar Bears are coming off a 2021 season in which they finished 94-39 overall with a fifth-place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships and a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals … That seventh-place finish was the team's best at regionals since 2017 and marked its 17th straight top-10 finish at the event … The Polar Bears enter the season ranked No. 9 in the Great Lakes Region … Senior Breydan Hann and junior Kyle Roth lead this year's squad as the top returning finishers from the 2021 regional meet … Hann finished 29th at the OAC Championships and 54th at the NCAA Regionals last season and placed among the top three ONU runners in four meets … Roth placed 34th at the OACs and 69th at the NCAA Regionals in 2021 … Other top returning lettermen include juniors Ian Ackenhausen, Aaron Guzman and Braden Schaser and sophomore Trey Masterson.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 14th year as head coach of the ONU men's and women's cross country teams and is the winningest coach in school history for both programs … Over 13 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's team to a 1,268-334 record, a winning percentage of .792, and four OAC titles and the women's team to a 1,069-449 record, a winning percentage of .704, and three OAC championships.
