Senior Kase Schalois and junior Samuel Boyd lead No. 28 Men's Cross Country at Wis.-Oshkosh Invitational

WINNECONNE, Wis -- Seniors Kase Schalois and Andrew Harden led the No. 28-ranked Ohio Northern men's cross country team to a fifth place finish at the Wis.-Oshkosh Invitational Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

Schalois finished 38th of 551 runners in 25:51.6, while Harden finished 39th in 25:52.6 to lead Northern (54-5 overall) across the finish line.

Sophomore Ian McVey also posted a top-50 finish for the Polar Bears, finishing 42nd in 25:56.0.

Junior Bobby Borger posted a top-7 finish for the Polar Bears, finishing 64th in 26:07.5, while senior Cully Gordon finished 73rd in 26:12.5.

Junior Matt Molinaro and junior Samuel Boyd rounded out the top-7 for the Polar Bears, finishing 92nd and 112th, respectively.

Northern finished fifth of 37 teams with 197 points and beat four of the other eight nationally-ranked teams.

"We beat four nationally-ranked teams, so we certainly helped ourselves on a national level today," Maus said. "We should now be in the national discussion. Our guys ran well and put themselves in good position as the season goes on."

With the fifth place finish, eighth-year head coach Jason Maus is now the winningest coach in Ohio Northern men's cross country history. Maus has guided the Polar Bears to a 792-161 record, surpassing the 765-348 mark set by Brian Cole from 1997-2007. 

The Polar Bears will return to action Oct. 29th, as they compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Capital at Columbus State Community College at 11 am.
