ADA — It couldn't of been any closer for Ohio Northern sophomore Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) Saturday during the Joe Banks Invitational at the ONU Sports Center. Dean won the 200-meter dash by the slimmest of margins, .01 seconds, clocking in at 22.57.
Dean added a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash — for the second consecutive week — recording a time of 7.07, which helped the Polar Bears finish fourth as a team with 97.5 points. Otterbein won the meet, tallying 126.5 points, and Cedarville placed second, scoring 100 points.
Northern littered the top five in pole vault. Sophomore Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) placed runner-up with a leap of 15-05, while fellow sophomore Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) and junior Donald Gaylord II (Ashtabula/Lakeside) took third and fifth, respectively, with marks of 14-05.25 and 12-11.5.
Juniors Colin McCullough (Galion) and Owen Lloyd (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) tied for third in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 8.64. McCullough added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 21-00.
Junior Alex Sube (Wadsworth/Highland) placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 48-09.00. Freshman Zach Adkins (Enon/Greenon) finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-06.
The Polar Bears travel to the Hillsdale (Mich.) Challenge, a two-day meet beginning Feb. 7.
