NAPERVILLE, Ill.— Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLasalle) was named an All-American and National Runner Up in the 800-meter run as he competed on Day 2 of the NCAA Div. III National Championships at North Central (Ill.) College on Saturday afternoon.
Molinaro qualified for Saturday's finals with the fastest time heading into the second day.
The junior finished second and earned All-America honors in a personal best time of 1:51.53.
"Matt had a really interesting race," said head coach Jason Maus. "He got into a little bit of traffic there for a little bit but made his way out and finished solid. His kick was just a little to late and he just ran out of track. He was closing very well and just ran out of track to win. This was a really great race for Matt and it just gives him something to work for during the outdoor season."
"This feels pretty amazing," said Molinaro. "It really hasn't hit me quite yet. Finishing second is a really great feeling, but it really fires me up for the outdoor season. I feel like I am better outdoors and I really want to win a National Title. There is a lot I want to accomplish and I'm excited to get back to work and get ready for the outdoor season."
