Senior Lucas Shumate and sophomore Ian Mcvey lead Men's Track & Field at All-Ohio Championships

WESTERVILLE — Senior Lucas Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) and sophomore Ian McVey (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) both posted first place finishes to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team at the All-Ohio Championships in Westerville on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears finished fifth out of 18 teams and improve to 39-15 overall.
For the fourth time in four meets, Shumate won the weight throw to lead Northern.
The senior won the event with a toss of 57' 11.75".
McVey also posted a first place finish as he won the 1-mile run in 4:26.49.
Junior Bobby Borger (Perrysburg) finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 15:19.96.
In the 3,000-meter run junior Samuel Boyd (Killbuck/West Holmes) and freshman Wyatt Stahl (Lima/Bath) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Boyd finished the race in 9:00.02, while Stahl finished in 9:06.63.
Freshman David Harvey (Mechanicsburg) took fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 6' 4.00" and also finished eighth in the long jump with the jump of 20' 11.75".
Sophomore Luke Sommer (Magnolia/Sandy Valley) also placed for the Polar Bears in the high jump as he finished fifth in the event with a height of 6' 4.00".
The team of juniors Conner Karg (West Liberty/Salem), Alec Lunney (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark), Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) and freshman Jared Butcher (Mechanicsburg) concluded the meet for the Polar Bears with a 6th place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:29.10.
Northern will return to the track Saturday as they travel to Alliance, Ohio to compete in the Mount Union Raider Tune Up meet.
