Aidan Dempsey starring for Team Ireland in World Lacrosse Men’s U-21 World Championship

ADA — Rising junior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) of the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team has led Team Ireland to the quarterfinals of the World Lacrosse Men's U-21 World Championship, which is being held in Limerick, Ireland.
Team Ireland went a perfect 3-0 in group play with a score differential of plus-30 to finish atop Group C. The team earned wins of 12-5 over Germany, 9-5 over Jamaica and 20-1 over Latvia in Group C and defeated the third-place team from Group B, Czech Republic, by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday.
Dempsey ranks sixth overall with 18 points in the tournament, recording 13 goals and five assists, and has a .390 shooting percentage. He finished with five goals and one assist against Germany, three goals and one assist against Jamaica, one goal and one assist against Latvia and four goals and two assists against Czech Republic.
Team Ireland will face Team Canada, which went 3-1 and finished in second place in Group A, on Wednesday in the second of four quarterfinal games.
Dempsey closed his sophomore season at Ohio Northern with 28 points via 21 goals and seven assists. He ranked fourth on the team in points and goals and tied for the team lead in extra-man goals with four.
He will enter his junior season with 38 career points on 26 goals and 12 assists with a .356 shooting percentage, 28 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
