ADA — Freshman Caleb Bennett (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a career-high five goals to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 25-1 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Heidelberg on Wednesday evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears (10-3 overall, 6-1 OAC) clinched a spot in the 6-team OAC Tournament April 30-May 7 with the victory.
The Student Princes fall to 1-12, 1-6.
Sophomore Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) also had a hat trick to lead an ONU offense that saw 14 different players score goals in the contest.
ONU scored the first five goals of the game and led 7-1 after the first period, 11-1 at halftime and 19-1 after three quarters.
Northern out-shot Heidelberg 74-8, won the ground ball battle 56-18 and won 23 of the 30 faceoffs.
The 25 goals was just one shy of the team-record 26 set in a 26-2 win over Wilmington in 2019 and the 74 shots fell just short of the school record 77 set in a 21-7 win at Franciscan in 2017.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday when they celebrate Senior Day in a 1 pm contest against Capital at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
