ANGOLA, Ind. — Sophomore John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored his first career collegiate hat trick as the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team defeated Trine (Ind.) 13-3 on Wednesday night at Zollner Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-2 overall with the win and handed Trine (Ind.) (3-1) its first loss of the season.
Junior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) and sophomore Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) each added a pair of goals for the Polar Bear scoring attack.
Junior goalkeeper Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) made eight saves on 11 shots and improved to 4-2 on the season.
ONU took an early 4-0 lead with 4:51 remaining in the first quarter and never looked back.
Leading 7-2 at halftime, the Polar Bear offense scored six more goals in the second half and only gave up one Thunder goal en route to the win.
Ohio Northern out-shot the Thunder 51-19 and won the ground ball battle 32-26.
Ohio Northern will continue its road trip with a game at Medaille (N.Y.) on Saturday at noon.
