SALISBURY, Md. — Playing on the road against one of the top teams in the country in No. 2 Salisbury (Md.), the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team dropped a 24-2 game Wednesday night at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 3-1 overall on the season. Ranked No. 1 nationally by USA Lacrosse Magazine and No. 2 by the USILA, the Sea Gulls improve to 6-0.
Senior Chris Cranston (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) and sophomore John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored one goal each for ONU in the game.
Cross Ferrara led Salisbury with seven goals and 10 points.
Salisbury scored nine goals in the first quarter, added three more in the second and eight in the third.
The Polar Bears got on the scoreboard when Cranston scored on an assist from freshman Caleb Bennett (New Market, Md./Linganore) with 10:17 left in the game.
Northern's second goal, courtesy of Lynn on an assist from junior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.), came with the Polar Bears having a man-up advantage with 2:11 remaining.
Junior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) made nine saves in goal for Northern.
Salisbury out-shot ONU 50-26 and finished with a 52-25 edge in ground balls.
The Polar Bears return to action on Friday for their second straight game against a ranked opponent as they take on No. 10 Gettysburg (Pa.) on the road at 3 p.m.
