MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season Sunday at Crain Field. The Polar Bears fell to Rhodes College (Tenn.) 13-7. The loss gives Northern a 3-1 overall record on the season, while the victory improved the Lynx to 4-0 on the year.
Junior Mason Schmeling (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) and Joe O'Connell (Fishers, Ind.) each tallied a pair of goals for Northern. Seniors Cameron Marous (Brecksville) and Samuel Neff (Gainesville, Va./Trinity Christian) and junior Joshua Foster (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) each recorded one goal apiece.
The Polar Bears fired 36 shots in all, 17 on target, while Rhodes registered 47 shots, 34 of which were on frame. ONU freshman goalie Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) made 21 saves.
Northern trailed 6-2 after one period and 9-4 at halftime. The Polar Bears cut into the deficit in the third, outscoring the Lynx 2-1, but couldn't mount a big fourth-quarter rally.
Northern travels to Centre (Ky.) Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest.
